
Meet Shonta L. Thomas

Shonta L. Thomas is a distinguished mental health professional, author, and advocate, dedicated to empowering individuals to lead their best lives. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, she currently resides in the Atlanta metro area with her two children.
Shonta’s academic credentials are extensive. She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology, another in Community Counseling, and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Professionally, she is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTPII).
Her diverse background includes ten years of service in the U.S. Navy, during which she developed expertise in logistics, security, investigation, mental and behavioral health, crisis intervention, training, mentorship, and sexual assault advocacy. As a two-time breast cancer survivor and sexual assault survivor, Shonta brings profound empathy and resilience to her practice.
Shonta’s passion for writing led to the publication of her first book, “Matters of the Mind: Life Edition,” a compilation of poetry addressing various real-life situations, released in July 2018. She has several forthcoming works, including children’s books, a fiction novel for adolescents, and a self-help guide titled “The Strength to Leave: Identifying, Accepting, and Walking Away from Red Flag Behaviors and Situations in Your Relationship.” This particular work underscores her commitment to domestic violence awareness and prevention, aiming to inspire individuals to leave unhealthy relationships.
In addition to her literary endeavors, Shonta has launched the ‘Traumatically Free’ coaching program, designed to assist women in reclaiming their lives after traumatic events. A corresponding workbook will accompany the program.
Through Mind Matters Consulting LLC, Shonta emphasizes positivity, encouragement, and personal growth, guiding clients toward their best selves and optimal mental health. Her personal experiences, combined with her professional expertise, uniquely position her to support and inspire others on their journeys to healing and self-discovery.
